Porter is an approximately 18 month to 2 year old, neutered male border collie. This dog is a classic border collie. He is a nice size at about 37 pounds.
He comes to us from a shelter in rural southern Utah where he was a stray, so we have no history on him. This is an extremely nice dog and we are always surprised to get dogs like Porter. Someone must be missing him!
Porter is learning about living indoors and has come a long way. He is now housetrained and crate trained. He sleeps quietly in his crate all night. He will still counter surf if something irresistable is on the kitchen counter, but has gotten much better about making good choices. He quickly learned to use the dog door in his foster home and does not bark excessively. Just an all around nice dog...handsome, too!
Porter rides well in vehicles in his crate and loads right up for his foster mom. He gets along with other dogs, even small ones, but can be easily overwhelmed so not a good candidate for the dog park.
Porter is all about the ear scratch and loves people! He is learning his name and when you call him, he comes immediately. Good boy!
On his journey to Idaho, Porter was briefly exposed to cats and was "instensely interested" so may not be a good candidate to live with felines. He is very tolerant of handling and was good for his first grooming, although a little nervous.
His foster mom describes him as a sweet, playful young dog. He warms up to friendly, stable dogs quickly and becomes very playful. Porter is a little protective of his food so needs to be fed separately or supervised during meal time. He also is a little possessive of his toys and is learning to share in foster home.
His energy level is moderate, so he does well with daily walks and some good play sessions. Porter would benefit from some formal obedience training and enjoys training with treats. He has not been destructive in his foster home, but is not left unsupervised.
Porter's adoption fee is $225. He is neutered, up to date on vaccinations and microchipped. He will come with a collar and ID tag.
If you are interested in possibly adopting Porter, you must be willing to come to southwestern Idaho to meet him.
Please complete the application on this webpage and the email Joan at firstname.lastname@example.org. We will get back to you as soon as possible. Thank you for considering adoption!
